Taiwanese Artist Creates Gun That Freezes And Shoots Her Tears At Those Who Hurt Her

Let me tell you about a truly unique creation by an artist from Taiwan, Yi Fei Chen. She designed a device that collects her tears, freezes them, and shoots them as bullets. Yes, you read that right—bullets made of frozen tears! The inspiration behind this fascinating invention? A heated argument with her teacher.

Chen shared her story, explaining how this all began back in 2016. During an argument with her mentor over an assignment, she felt frustrated and helpless. “I wanted to stand up for myself but couldn’t,” she said. Tears started rolling down her cheeks, but she stayed put, feeling trapped. That’s when a thought hit her: What if I could turn my tears into a weapon? 

Raised in Taiwan and later studying in the Netherlands, Chen grew up believing it was disrespectful to disagree with teachers. This cultural value left her feeling powerless during the argument. But instead of letting the frustration eat her up, she channeled it into something creative.  

The Birth of the Tear Gun  

Chen decided to make this bold idea her graduation project. It took her three months to build the first working model, and since then, she has been fine-tuning her invention.  

So, how does the tear gun actually work? It’s surprisingly straightforward! First, the gun collects tears. Then, in just 20 seconds, it uses carbon dioxide to freeze the tears into tiny bullets. These frozen "bullets" are shot using a spring mechanism. Ingenious, right?  

Facing Her Teacher  

Before moving forward with her project, Chen had to pitch the idea to the very teacher she had argued with. You might think he would be offended, but guess what? He loved it! In fact, he was impressed by her creativity and fully supported her work.  

Chen recalled his reaction: “He was quite happy with the result, even though it was inspired by our disagreement.”
