A Record-Breaking Ride

Imagine gliding up a mountain at a jaw-dropping gradient of 159.4%! This incredible cable car is part of the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project’s first major phase. In just four minutes, you’ll ascend 775 meters over a span of 1,194 meters. With space for up to 85 passengers per trip or 6.8 tonnes of cargo, this cable car ensures a smooth and efficient ride. Its standout feature? An 11-meter-long suspension arm that handles the steep incline like a pro.

Advanced Technology at Work

This isn’t just any cable car—it’s packed with cutting-edge tech. Using the AURO (Autonomous Ropeway Operation) system, it operates driverless, thanks to cameras and sensors. Plus, a fully automated loading robot takes care of luggage and cargo, syncing everything perfectly with passengers. Talk about futuristic travel!

Switzerland’s First Funifor Cable Car

But wait, there’s more! Switzerland also launched its first-ever Funifor cable car. This special system operates between Mürren and Birg. What’s cool about Funifor? It’s super wind-resistant and can run all year. Plus, each track works independently, so one can operate even if the other is under maintenance. During winter, both the old and new cableways will run together to keep up with the busy ski season.

Stunning Cable Car Stations

The new cable car stations are a sight to behold! With bright copper façades and V-shaped concrete pillars, they offer breathtaking panoramic views. At Stechelberg, the cable car even exits through the roof due to the steep incline—an impressive engineering solution.

What’s Next?

The upper section of the cableway, from Birg to the Schilthorn summit, is undergoing upgrades. The first Funifor track here is set to open by March 2025, with the second track following in spring 2026. Once completed, the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project will be a masterpiece of innovation and design.

So, what are you waiting for? Add this thrilling experience to your bucket list and get ready to explore Switzerland like never before!
