According to the latest information obtained, travelers reaching Changi International Airport located in Singapore will no longer be stressed while traveling since there is a new system of 'token-less clearance' introduced. In this system, qualified individuals would be allowed to enter the country without a passport but would instead be required to have their eyes and face scanned for identification purposes.

Specific for the residents of Singapore, this system will permit travelers to pass through the immigration processes with only the help of sophisticated digital technologies for processing eye and face recognition hence no need to carry any physical passports.
During the trial phase, similar facilities are offered in Terminal 3, which has been demarcated for this innovative process, where passengers will be allowed into the country without presenting any physical passport. The programme is expected to include all terminals and even Seletar Airport and the Marina Bay Cruise Centre by December 2024.
Eligible individuals for the program will comprise citizens, those with permanent resident status, and long-term pass holders. Foreign nationals can utilize biometric clearance upon leaving Singapore; however, they are supposed to first register their iris, face, and hand biometrics at immigration manual counters only. Young children, on the other hand, up to the age of six years are, however, not allowed to utilize biometric clearance at all.
A significant shift in the implementation of the 'New Clearance Concept' is the focus on biometric technologies. It is further stated that the implementation of these technologies will render all manual passport control procedures obsolete, by the time 95% of the travelers will be using automated lanes for immigration processes by the year 2026. As the ICA (Immigration & Checkpoints Authority) reveals, this new innovation has the potential to enhance the travel journey by reducing the immigration processing times by 40% or even more. To this day, 1.5 million travelers had already experienced the benefits of the remarkable system within 15 days from the date of its introduction.
In regards to keeping Singapore's borders intact, ICA Commander Alan Koo mentioned, that the new programme will relieve some personnel but most importantly will encourage them to focus on better value tasks such as security profiling. This, therefore will go a long way in helping them cope with the challenges posed by an ageing workforce and increasing numbers of travelers.
International guests will still have to show their passports upon arrival, but they will be able to undergo a passport-free clearance while leaving. The ICA urges travelers traveling to other countries to have their passports for immigration purposes in destination countries, so as to adhere to the international traveling laws. This technological advancement is accepted by Singapore which means that the experience of traveling in and out of Changi Airport will not only become far more effective but will also become the blueprint for airports globally, which redefines how we view border security and the management of passengers.
