Cold winds from the north have brought a wintery feel to Bengal. The state is enveloped in the charm of winter. For the first time this season, Kolkata's temperature has dipped below 20 degrees Celsius. The Alipore weather station recorded a temperature of 19.3 degrees Celsius. In the western region, the mercury is hovering around 14-15 degrees Celsius. However, the meteorological department officials have stated that the full onset of winter is still a while away. Winter is not expected to set in completely before mid-December. In Purulia, the temperature has dropped to 12.9 degrees Celsius, while Shantiniketan recorded a minimum of 13.4 degrees Celsius.
Dense fog has been prevalent since morning in the northern districts of Malda and North Dinajpur. These districts, located near Bihar, are likely to face significant foggy conditions over the weekend. Visibility may reduce to 50 to 200 meters. Meanwhile, four districts in South Bengal—Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia—are experiencing moderate fog. All districts are reporting light fog and haze during the early hours. The weather is expected to remain similar for the next seven days, with no forecast of rain for now.
Over the past 24 hours, the temperature in Purulia hovered around 14 degrees Celsius. The meteorological department predicts a further drop in temperatures over the next two to three days due to cold northern winds. Early this morning, Kolkata’s temperature dropped to 19.3 degrees Celsius. However, the maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 30.1 degrees Celsius. A significant drop in nighttime temperatures has also been observed. The relative humidity in the air ranges between 39% and 93%.
