A new expressway lies for the travellers as well for the pilgrims, who are thinking for a trip to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and Vaishno Devi in Jammu. This expressway is called the Delhi - Amritsar - Katra Expressway and was inaugurated not so much ago. Now it boosts revolutionized travel because the Haryana portion is up and running and has just opened up a vital link in the corridor of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra besides slashing the travel time.

Salient Features:


1) Most importantly, the new expressway would reduce the traveling time from Delhi to Katra.


2) It consists of a 135 km stretch connected to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway up to Kaithal district at the Punjab border. Hence the journey will be much faster and easier.


3) The expressway passes through Jhajjar district of Haryana and is planned with security and beauty. Strong railings along the side of the road to stop animals from going on the road.


4) There is also a green median to beautify the aesthetics.


5) Access-controlled-four lanes for high speed travel-only authorized vehicles will be permitted on the expressway.


6) A light vehicle can run with a speed of up to 120 km/h, while heavy vehicles can speed up to 80 km/h only.


7) The high-way is recently modernized allowing an innovative way of toll collection, which removes typical toll booths thus making toll payment speedy with no delays incurred. The layout of this road bears fountains, which are meant for decoration and irrigation purpose along the central divider.


8) The highway permits light and heavy-duty vehicles; however, it does not permit motorcycles and three-wheeler auto rickshaw. Clear signage will be put every 100 metres for convenience and safety on informing drivers' restrictions or updates.


Toll Rates On The KMP-Kaithal Section:


1) Light Motor Vehicles (Cars, Jeeps): ₹240 for one way, ₹360 for return.

 

2) Light Commercial Vehicles: One-way- ₹385; return- ₹580. 


3) Two-Axle Buses and Trucks: One way- ₹805; round trip- ₹1210. 


4) Three-Axle Commercial Vehicles: One-way- ₹880; both directions- ₹1320. 


The Delhi-Katra express highway whose full length is about 669 km is going to make the travel from Delhi to Katra a mere six hours more once it becomes functional. Travellers can leave Delhi at 6 a.m. and arrive at Katra by noon.
