Nagpur Launches 250 E-Buses To Combat Air Pollution

Nagpur, the 'Orange City' of India, is striving towards cleaner and greener modes of transportation by incorporating 250 e-buses. In fact, the city has decided to go a notch higher in the climate change crusade by that introduction of those buses which are meant to curb air pollution. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has also passed this proposal to bring in additional public transport systems to the city, which shall help in making public transport more efficient, reliable and green in nature.

Presently, 437 buses ply in and out of the city of Nagpur on the road network. Following the directives of Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Transport, the city of Nagpur tested electric buses in and around the streets of the city and suburbs with successful results. For that reason, in order to contribute to further green initiatives, the NMC is now set to launch 250 new e-buses in Nagpur that represents a tremendous achievement in the provision of a clean transportation system.

About The Buses

The contract for the deployment was given to Hansa Vahan India Private Limited, erstwhile known as M/s Hansa Travels, who has partnered with EKA Mobility. EKA will manufacture and deliver 12-meter air-conditioned electric buses to Hansa Travels. In addition to the aforementioned, the company will also provide maintenance of the buses over the duration of the Contract.

Discussing the aforementioned development, Mr. Rohit Srivastava, Chief Growth Officer of EKA Mobility commented,
"This partnership with Nagpur Municipal Corporation marks another critical step towards India’s transition to clean energy mobility. We are thrilled to be a part of Nagpur’s journey toward becoming one of India’s most sustainable cities. This order is also a testament to EKA Mobility’s growing presence and leadership in the electric vehicle market. With a vision to make public transportation more sustainable and accessible, we will continue to provide green mobility solutions to cities across India, helping them meet their clean energy targets."

Each bus in the e-bus fleet is configured to carry 41 seated commuters and 24 passengers who will be standing. This implies that within a day, approximately 16,000 people will take a more enjoyable and green travel. On average, these buses will carry out more than 100,000 commuters’ journeys daily that seek private cars thereby reducing the road traffic.

It has also been predicted that introduction of e-buses in Nagpur will have several beneficial effects for the city.

1) Promotes Clean Air: Considering the fact that electric buses are characterized by zero emissions, it goes a long way to reduce the levels of air pollution in Nagpur; this is an important measure in fighting urban pollution and enhancing breathing space in the city.

2) Noise Pollution Levels Are Practically Non-Existent: There is also much less noise generated by electric buses than diesel engine buses in operation and this is bound to reduce noise pollution too. This mode of transportation being quieter can be expected to result to better living conditions for the residents.

3) Energy Efficiency: Electric powered buses convert electrical energy sourced from fossil fuel-free or renewable sources instead of traditional fuels like diesel engines. This reduces the consumption rates of conventional fuels while positively contributing to the energy sustainability goals.

4) Cost savings: In the long term, e-buses will likely become cheaper, considering maintenance costs and fuel prices, which are very low for e-buses. This will not be a bad thing for the NMC and, in turn, to the taxpayers.

5) Encouragement of Clean Technology: The introduction of e-buses is likely to trigger the enhanced application of cleaner technologies in other sectors and channel funds into infrastructure developments such as installing charging stations in ees mobilis subsystems, hence encoring ev adoption.

6) Health Benefits: Through mitigating air pollution, e-buses are also advantageous in public health as they are likely to decrease the morbidity and mortality rates associated with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases which are exacerbated by air pollution.

7) Improvement of the Public Transport System: E-buses are more likely to provide better suspension systems and a more comfortable ride to the passengers, which makes public transportation more attractive to the residents, encouraging less use of private cars, thus decreasing traffic flows, and the level of carbon emissions released due to the use of personal vehicles.

All in all, there awaits a significant upturn in Nagpur’s global e-bus revolution, which is poised to not only develop eco-friendly concepts but also promote the well-being of its residents.
