On September 27 each year the concept of tourism is remembered with great regard as World Tourism Day. It gives us an insight as to how journeys transcend distance and connects people socially, oh rather culturally and economically. This year in particular is exhilarating since the host country for the event is Georgia! To those who are hearing Georgia fro the first time, let me paint a picture for you: it is a lovely country with gorgeous mountains, active wine areas as well as very old churches. It is one of those places that will leave you speechless! Georgia lies between Europea and Asia in the east and west respectively which actually sounds very interesting especially when one considers the rich man history and scenery such a country has to offer.

World Tourism Day 2024 |
History of World Tourism Day
As per the Tourism of the United Nations website, the World Tourism Day is celebrated since 1980. The 27th day of September was selected in honoring the signing of the UNWTO statutes of 1970, which a great milestone to the worldwide tourism. Witty observations: this date is like a goldilocks period in the year; it is neither here nor there as the tourist season in the North comes to an end, the South is just beginning ready for tourists. Since 1997, this event has been conducted each year in a specific country and the country is not the same each year.
What Is The Theme Of World Tourism Day 2024
This year’s theme is "Tourism and Peace." In an official statement, António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, said, "Sustainable tourism can transform communities - creating jobs, fostering inclusion and strengthening local economies. By valuing and preserving cultural and natural heritage, it can help reduce tensions and nurture peaceful coexistence."
Guterres also pointed out that tourism not only helps economic cooperation but also broadens our views. "Every traveller can be an ambassador, engaging respectfully with local populations, recognizing our diversity and shared humanity, and the values that unite us all," he added.
