About Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur Pooram is actually one of the most famous and grand temple festivals in Kerala. This festival has a calendar of events annually in the Malayalam month of Medam (April or May). In 2025, it is going to be celebrated on May 6; trust us, it's going to be magical!

The celebration goes on for a full 36 hours non-stop, with processions, music, traditional performances, and a display of fireworks that paint the night sky.

The Star Attractions Of Thrissur Pooram

What makes Thrissur Pooram unique? Here are a few pointers about this festival that will get you packing your bags to Thrissur:

1) Elephant Procession: About 50 elephants, all bedecked in grand style, walk the streets in a giant parade. On the last day, 15 elephants in the family of Thiruvambadi Temple march out, with the lead elephant carrying the idol of Lord Krishna. A sight essentially divine!

2) Kudamattam: It's the umbrella exchange happening on the back of elephants! Very colorful and spectacular at the same time!

It has been celebrated ever since as a festival of unity, culture, and joy that tends to attract throngs of people—both locals and international visitors.
