It’s true that humans can form friendships with animals. But friendships with tigers and bears? That sounds surprising, but it’s a reality. In Ramnabagan Zoological Park in Purba Bardhaman, there are many animals, including tigers and bears. Over time, the park’s employees and officials have developed a special bond with them.

Currently, the park has 28 employees, including Rahmat Midya, Sheikh Lalbabu, Shyamal Kumar Dhara, Saurabh Bagdi, Jaydev Bagdi, Dipankar Hajra, Sheikh Rumjan, and Rabindranath Pal. What’s fascinating is their deep friendship with the wild animals.

Zoo supervisor Tarun Kanti Bandopadhyay says, “Spending years with these animals has created a special connection. The animals recognize those who love and care for them. If we call them, they respond. Sometimes, they even call out to us on their own. The bond between the staff and the animals here is incredible.”

Each animal in Ramnabagan has a name. The crocodile is called Raja, the bear is Rani, and the tiger is Kali! When the officials call Kali by name, it responds joyfully by shaking its head or tail. It quietly walks over when called for food and sits obediently when asked. The bear, Rani, is even more expressive—if someone calls her, she rushes over and stands right in front. If she isn’t petted on her head or body, she gets upset!

The staff works tirelessly throughout the day to care for the animals. Every animal’s needs are looked after with great attention. Bardhaman’s Range Officer Kajal Biswas says, “We conduct regular health check-ups for our staff to prevent any infections from spreading to the animals.”

Rabindranath Pal, one of the employees, shares, “From the moment we arrive in the morning, we’re completely occupied with the animals. The officials here support us a lot, and over time, we’ve built a close friendship with these creatures.”

To ensure the animals' safety, multiple precautions are taken. All staff members wear masks and gloves to maintain hygiene in the park. Vehicles are not allowed inside, and PPE kits are also available.

This unique bond between humans and animals in Ramnabagan Zoological Park is truly heartwarming!
