Recently, Maharashtra’s Information Technology and Cultural Affairs Minister, Ashish Shelar, launched this safari. He is also the guardian minister for Mumbai’s suburban district. On the same day, he adopted two lion cubs—named Bharat and Bharati—brought from Gujarat on January 26. He will take care of them for a year as a special conservation gesture.
SGNP already has lion and tiger safaris. Now, the new leopard safari gives you a chance to see leopards up close. The safari promises a safe and fun experience for visitors and is designed to care for the animals. Since the park is already famous for its leopards, this new addition will help educate people and let wildlife lovers enjoy these amazing cats in a natural-like setting.
Let’s take a closer look at what to expect on the leopard safari at SGNP:
First, SGNP has a rescue and rehabilitation center for leopards. Before now, the rescued leopard cubs were not open to the public. With this new project, which costs around INR 5 crores, visitors can enjoy leopard sightings in a 30-hectare enclosure. The space is designed to look like the leopards’ natural home. You might see them lounging in the sun, climbing trees, or playfully chasing each other. Moreover, the safari teaches you about leopard conservation, their role in the ecosystem, and how humans can coexist with wildlife even in a growing city. With leopards also seen in nearby areas like Aarey Colony, this safari helps clear up misunderstandings about these shy animals.
