Internet Reacts To Confusing Traffic Sign: Bengaluru vs. Bangaluru

A traffic sign in Bengaluru has become an internet sensation, and for all the hilarious reasons! Shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the signboard is located on the airport road leading into the city. But here’s the catch – it has a glaring typo that’s leaving travelers scratching their heads (and laughing too!).

The sign points to four locations: KR Puram, Tumkur, and two separate directions for “Bengaluru” and “Bangaluru.” Confusing, right? X users quickly noticed that both routes lead to the same place, but through different paths. While one route goes over a flyover, the other appears to go straight ahead. A witty side note in the post read, “This is on airport road towards the city. I bet someone new to the country or the city will definitely wonder if Bengaluru and Bangaluru are two different places!”

The post triggered a wave of laughter online, with users sharing their own take on the situation.  

One person hilariously explained, “Left sign takes you to a road that bends before merging, therefore Bengaluru. Right sign – you bang straight. Therefore Bangaluru.” 

Another user chimed in, “Hahaha. I know exactly where this is – Hebbal flyover, just before you enter the city. Even if you take the left, you can come up the ramp and join the same road.” 

Someone else guessed, “This might be a painting mistake for ‘Bagaluru,’ which is an actual place in North Bengaluru.” 

Others joked that it might be a clever way to make speeding drivers slow down. One user wrote, “This may be purposely done so that fast drivers slow down and hence accidents are reduced.” 

The funniest comment? “Clearly, the signboard guy wasn’t from ‘Bengaluru’ or ‘Bangaluru’ – whichever they meant!”  

People couldn’t stop poking fun at the confusion, with someone saying, “With these kinds of directions, even a seasoned Bangalorean will get lost in the traffic!” 

Though many laughed, some summed it up perfectly: “It’s confusing!” One user tried to clarify, “Two ways to the same destination, only the pronunciation is different.” 

In a city known for its legendary traffic and witty humor, this signboard has become yet another reason for Bengaluru – or should we say Bangaluru – to trend online!
