UNESCO declared that West Bengal's tourism sector receives international recognition as much as it does from the state itself by declaring the state a leading destination for heritage tourism. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mentioned that the state has made significant progress in religious, heritage, and tea tourism. Besides boosting tourism, it has provided employment for several thousands of youths. It's now raising West Bengal's tourism to newer heights, creating jobs, and ensuring the state remains a key place in India's tourism.
Heritage And Devotional Tourism: Major Growth Areas
Heritage tourism has indeed brought fruit to West Bengal. Its focusing and developing religious places such as Dakshineshwar and Kalighat temples are changing the state into a hub for pilgrims and heritage tourists. The under-construction Jagannath temple at Digha is likely to be an additional place of attraction among devotees for the future.
Tourism Infrastructure: A Jump Start To Employment And Local Economy
With the opening of more than 2,400 homestays, particularly in North Bengal, the tourism infrastructure of the state magnified. The Chief Minister also pointed to the development of tourist-friendly infrastructure like the Sunderbans, forests, and mountains. This suddenly bodes well for thousands of hotels and other establishments that have started yielding significant employment for local youths.
Gangasagar Mela: Elevating Pilgrimage Tourism
Gangasagar Mela, the prominent religious congregation, has grabbed headlines for being the second-largest pilgrimage after Kumbh Mela, in India. In the coming years, all this will change when several infrastructural arrangements, including a bridge over the Muriganga river, will be developed by the state to facilitate the visitors and promote this fair more prominently.
