Right now, the service has seven shikaras, but more will be added if tourists love it. Each shikara can carry up to four people and the ride lasts one hour. You can enjoy this service every day from 10 am to 5 pm. Planning ahead? You can book your ride 12 hours to 15 days in advance, making it easy to include in your Kashmir trip.
The best part? The prices are set by the government, so you don’t have to worry about bargaining. It’s fair for both visitors and the shikara operators.
Uber has come up with an amazing initiative for shikara operators. Unlike its other services, Uber won’t take any commission from them. This means shikara operators get to keep 100% of the booking amount. This step is aimed at helping local boat owners earn more and improve their livelihoods.
The Shikara Owners Association, which represents over 4,000 operators on Dal Lake, is happy about this move. They believe it will solve bargaining issues for tourists and provide a steady income for the operators.
Uber’s entry into water transport is exciting, especially since it’s already known for its cab services in Srinagar. For holidaymakers in Srinagar, this service is more than just a ride. It’s a chance to experience the breathtaking beauty of Dal Lake through an easy-to-use app.
If you’re planning a winter holiday, Srinagar is the perfect spot. Picture snow-covered landscapes and the serene Dal Lake—what’s not to love?
