Ashray Kamath, a 19-year-old birder, had the honor of spotting the Baikal teal first. He recalled, "It was almost afternoon, and we were scanning a flock of ducks. One looked so different from the rest, with bright yellow markings on its face. I looked it up and realized it was a Baikal teal—a really rare find here. When the news spread, over 70 birders rushed to see it!"
