The whole world is on a mission towards adopting sustainable means and so is the city of Lucknow, The City of Nawabs! The much awaited E-Double-Decker buses in Lucknow are finally on roads. The first fleet of electric double-decker buses have arrived in order to make the public transport system more effective and clear off the road traffic levels. 1) Launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath: The double-decker buses were inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the Akanksha Haat Program launched at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow. In the event, the CM also boarded one of the buses which shows the firm stance of the state towards development of public transport.

2) Eco-Friendly buses: The zero emission electric buses are an environmental friendly option to replace the diesel operated buses. This strategy is in tune with the policies of the state on air pollution control and the use of cleaner transport modes.

3) Economic Pricing Strategy: The new bus transport system has been designed to cater for the people from all walks of life. Fares begin from as low as ₹12 for very short distances while the maximum fare that can be charged for a 30 kilometer distance has been pegged at ₹45. Such cheap public transport fares guarantee that the public transport services are availed by all the passengers.

4) Fare Structure

In view of the fare structure, the following ranges and values are applicable:

0-3 km - Fares charged are ₹ 12

0-6 km - Fares charged are ₹ 20

6-10km- Fares charged are 25

10–14 km: Fares charged are ₹30

14–19 km: Fares charged are ₹35

19–24 km: Fares charged are ₹40

24–30 km: Fares charged are ₹45

For instance Kamta to Lucknow Airport will cost you 40, while Transport Nagar seating will cost you 12.

5) Expansion Plans: The overall vision to extend the electric bus service in other parts of Uttar Pradesh where it will promote the objective of the state being clean, green and effective on the movement of people and goods in the cities.

6) Encouraging Local Craftsmen: At the time of the inauguration, CM Yogi Adityanath referred to the steps taken by the state to encourage local craftsmen by way of their participation in the public transport projects of the state. This is part of a wider campaign to enhance the local art, craft and employment base in the entire Uttar Pradesh.

7) Improved Amenities for Enhanced Enjoyment: As we have stated, the electric buses in the double decker designs have some modern amenities such as comfortable seating, air conditioning, and wi-fi connections.
