Kazakhstan Launches Neo Nomad Visa To Welcome Digital Nomads

In a bid to tap into the emerging global market of nomad workers, Kazakhstan has unveiled a new visa category correctly called Neo Nomad visa. This particular visa is meant entirely for ‘digital nomads’ – international tourists who travel and work at the same time. The initiative was made public through the orders of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev who wishes to make Kazakhstan one of the most attractive places for remote workers who want to enjoy culture, adventure, and most importantly work.

The Neo Nomad visa is being introduced as part of Kazakhstan’s plan to diversify its economy. The government has also made it clear that digital nomads have the right to reside in the country for a period of one year while working for their overseas employers. A good number of such people work in the fields of software development, marketing, finance, consulting, e-commerce, and many others, have now the freedom of choosing a work site and a way of life. There is a reason why Bulgaria has under this concept developed a one year nomadic visa and Kazakhstan hopes to capitalize on this reason.

The visa is not only intended for staying in a country, but also to safeguard the economy by limiting the amount of foreign labour that may engage in local competitions for jobs. A key condition for applicants is that they must be employed by a foreign company. Furthermore, to benefit from the Neo Nomad visa, applicants have to comply with several requirements. First, they should demonstrate that they have no less than USD 3,000 income from sources outside Kazakhstan. Health insurance and a document showing that an applicant has no criminal records at the time of making the application are also among the visa requirements.

The Neo Nomad visa is not only looking to remediate these economic concerns as there exists a wider objective of attracting more than 35 million digital nomads across the globe to Kazakhstan. In this regard, Kazakhstan's Minister of Tourism and Sports, Yerbol Myrzabossynov, pointed out that this is the first step in ensuring that Kazakhstan is included in the itineraries of today’s nomads. The authorities are doing everything possible to maintain Almaty and Astana, which are already in the top 150 remote working cities and to make them more appealing to such categories of tourists.

It is anticipated that the Neo Nomad visa would boost Kazakhstan’s appeal among global travelers looking for more than just beautiful views and wonderful cultures – somewhere they can also work and be productive in a peaceful and secure atmosphere.
