The airport authorities therefore pointed out that the additional service airlift would come in handy to the many pilgrims projected to visit the country from outside. The completion of a new terminal building makes it possible for the airport to serve international flights, it was however pointed out in the letter.
The letter request, which was sent on October 11 included, among other issues, information concerning the airport during the mahakumbh from the airport director, Farrukh Ahsan. He said that after the new terminal has been built out, this airport would provide facilities equal to that of an international airport. He insisted on the upgrades stating that those would ensure the airport’s readiness for handling international flights.
The authorities believe that starting international flights from Prayagraj would satisfy the demand of passengers traveling from Prayagraj and adjoining regions. Currently, a passenger from this region has to go to Varanasi or Lucknow airports to take a flight to the international destinations, such as those in the Gulf, Nepal or even Sri Lanka. International flights from Prayagraj would however make international travel easier and efficient as it would take away unnecessary traveling to far airports saving them both time and money which is a great benefit to the local people.
The airport is being expanded at the moment due to the expected surge of people coming in particular for the Mahakumbh festival. More so the terminal is being expanded; other facilities are being improved in a bid to meet the international standards. As stated by Ahsan, if done then Prayagraj could start flights to various countries from Prayagraj Airport enhancing the region’s connectivity.
Besides these advancements, Prayagraj Airport hopes to take on a more important capacity in terms of accommodating the international tourist during the Mahakumbh, the largest religious congregation across the globe. This enhanced infrastructure is expected to encourage the increase in the number of travelers to such events to residents as well as other tourists who want to visit within the country.
