This (Sir Creek) hardly has any greenery and is very hot during the day and too cold at night, making it very uncomfortable. The landscape is also not the easiest, an official source said.

PM Narendra Modi celebrated the festival of lights at the BSF post located on the India Pakistan border greeting and mingling with the jawans.

Since 2014 when he was elected as PM Modi has fully embraced the culture of celebrating Diwali with military personnel in various regions of the country. His trips include visits to military establishments where he meets with the soldiers and takes part in the festivities.

About Sir Creek

Sir Creek, situated in the western region of Gujarat and bordering India and Pakistan, is characterized by an extremely rugged and barren landscape. This region is a vast marshy wetland devoid of human population and is comprised of salt marches, muddy flats and mangroves which renders walking around impossible.

The conditions are quite daunting, coupled with elements such as intense hot and cold weather, and even the absence of basic social amenities. Sir Creek is perhaps the most hostile region found within the entire stretch of the border.

In spite of the forbidding geography, this region has its own historical significance and so a sizable number of security personnel are deployed in the region in order to protect the territorial integrity of India.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister paid rich tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at his Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the first home minister of India, celebrated as the National Unity day.

The Custom Followed By PM Modi Of Celebrating Diwali With The Armed Forces

In 2014, Modi observed the festival of Lights with the security personnel in Siachen. The following year, he paid tribute to the victories of the Indian Army in the 1965 war in Punjab by visiting three war memorials.

In 2016, he travelled to Himachal Pradesh in order to meet up with some soldiers around the border with China and engaged with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Dogra Scouts, and army personnel at a place called Sumdoh.

In 2017, Modi visited the Gurez sector in North Kashmir , while in 2018, he celebrated Diwali in Harsil of Uttarakhand where he made an unscheduled trip to the soldiers.

In 2019, Modi met the soldiers stationed in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, and in 2020, he visited the Longewala border post.

Modi observed the Diwali festival in Nowshera in Jammu and Kashmir the following year.

In 2022 PM Modi was present in Kargil to observe Diwali with the soldiers.

Last year, the prime minister went to Lepcha in Himachal Pradesh to visit soldiers for the festival.

Indian, Chinese troops At LAC Exchange Diwali Sweets

Modi’s Diwali festivities with the BSF soldiers come at a time when borders between India and China have able to maintain peace as troops squared off in the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the two nations even shared sweets on the occasion.

This custom was performed a day after the two countries had finished pulling back their respective forces from two contentious areas of Demchok and Depsang Plains in eastern Ladakh, which again cooled the warring relations between the two Asian countries.

On the occasion of Diwali, the troops of India and China exchanged sweets at various locations across the LAC, an Indian Army officer said to news agency PTI earlier today.

The interaction was held at all the five Border Coordination Meeting (BCM) points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) namely: Bum La and Wacha/Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh, Chushul-Moldo and Daulat Beg Oldi in Ladakh and Nathu La in Sikkim, among other places, the sources who wished to remain unnamed said

An Indian Army official stated on Wednesday that the troops on either side had finished the disengagement at the two sensitive areas and that patrolling operations were scheduled to begin shortly at those areas.

As per the source then, the verification process post disengagement was ongoing and patrolling modalities were to be worked out at the level of ground commanders.
