The collapsed bridge, located in the Darounda block's Ramgarha panchayat, was a small structure spanning a canal and connecting two villages. According to district magistrate Mukul Kumar Gupta, the 100-meter bridge caved in around 5 am, reportedly due to the pillars giving way as water was released through the canal. Thankfully, no casualties were reported in the incident.
"Nobody was injured in the incident. It was a very old structure and apparently, pillars caved in when water was released through the canal. We are trying to ensure that until it is restored, residents of affected villages face as little inconvenience as possible," said DM Mukul Kumar Gupta.
Officials attributed the collapse to the bridge's age, stating it was constructed about 30 years ago. This incident highlights the potential dangers posed by aging infrastructure and the need for proper maintenance and timely repairs.

The Siwan administration has assured that they are working to minimize inconvenience for residents of the affected villages while repairs or reconstruction of the bridge are underway.
“The brick wall and pillars connecting the bridge to the approach road weakened after the canal was recently dug. The matter will be probed,” said by an Siwan administrative official.
This spate of bridge collapses in Bihar has sparked public outcry and calls for a thorough investigation into the quality of construction and maintenance of bridges across the state.
