This latest collapse occurred in the Madhepur Block of Bheja police station in Madhubani district, over the Bhutahi River at a cost of ₹3 crore. It had been under development since 2021 by the Bihar government's Rural Works Department.

Reports suggest that rising water levels in the river were a contributing factor in the collapse. The surge reportedly caused a critical 25-meter supporting pillar to crumble, bringing down a portion of the 75-meter bridge into the river below.
Images from the site depict the collapsed pillars covered in large tarpaulin sheets, highlighting the severity of the damage.
This incident comes on the heels of four similar bridge collapses in Bihar over the preceding nine days. The repeated occurrences have sparked outrage among residents and ignited discussions about the need for stricter quality control measures during infrastructure projects.
